Rotary Club Scholarships Have Extra Special Meaning This Year!

Merrimack Valley Rotary Club proudly made scholarship donations this year to high school students in 7 towns in its region.

This continues the tradition that started with the Club almost 10 years ago.

Lawrence Day Memorial Scholarships
What makes this year different than past years is the fact that the donations are now called the Lawrence Day Memorial Scholarships named after the scholarship's founder. Larry, a long time member of the Club, sadly died in August 2007 and will be missed forever by Club member.

Lessons In How To Be A Rotarian
Larry, along with others, started the Scholarship program as a way of giving back to the community that gave him a scholarship when he was in high school. This way of giving is truly in the spirit of Rotary's worldwide.....service above self. Larry has taught us all a lesson in how to be a Rotarian.

Antiques Help Raise Funds For Rotary!

Skinner's Stuart Whitehurst, a host of the Antiques Roadshow, informed and entertained the crowd at MV Rotary's Antiques appraisal night on June 12, 2008.

Not only did the attendees benefit from appraisals of their items they also learned lessons in antiques.

All Is Not What It Appears
This lessons included tips about transfer prints on porcelain and hand made prints versus machine made print on cloth. Transfer prints and machine made prints both look impressive bt are basically worthless.

You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover
Also, the attendees learned that old school books are nice but not worth much as well as the fact that many old books have autographs but are printed on the book rather than actually signed. Also there is a market for Atlases if they are in tact.

All the proceeds for the event will be used to support Rotary programs both locally and internationally.
