Skinner's Stuart Whitehurst, a host of the Antiques Roadshow, informed and entertained the crowd at MV Rotary's Antiques appraisal night on June 12, 2008.Not only did the attendees benefit from appraisals of their items they also learned lessons in antiques.
All Is Not What It Appears
This lessons included tips about transfer prints on porcelain and hand made prints versus machine made print on cloth. Transfer prints and machine made prints both look impressive bt are basically worthless.
You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover
Also, the attendees learned that old school books are nice but not worth much as well as the fact that many old books have autographs but are printed on the book rather than actually signed. Also there is a market for Atlases if they are in tact.
All the proceeds for the event will be used to support Rotary programs both locally and internationally.
